It’s derrived from the Cygnus cargo vehicle they got when they absorbed Orbital/ATK, and is not part of the mockup. It’s a tug that will take the other two sections from Earth orbit to Lunar orbit.

If you think that’s tall, look at SpaceX’s lander that NASA has funded for development under the same program. Look closely to see the astronauts for a sense of scale.

My expectation is that unless they fumble this phase of the program, Dynetics will be the company tagged for the Artemis 3 mission.

NASA has funded three companies to develop landers with plans to fund 1 or more of them (possibly even all three) to completion at this end of first round development.

There is also very little reason to live in Antarctica, which despite having much more plentiful water and air than the moon or Mars, is still a very inhospitable environment.
