I think his character’s hypochondria-into-suicidal thoughts in “Hannah” made for some of the best material in that movie. Also, the character’s divorce from Hannah in integral for multiple characters’ arcs. He’s pretty important in it.

He was established and had a few hits, though. So he still got his start with an audience.

Exactly. This surprise set is in no way a “comeback.” As of now, there are no demands for CK’s stand-up in the arenas he used to sell out. His career, four days after the surprise set, is still destroyed.

If they release it, it will probably just be overlooked and forgotten like much of Allen’s recent work (remember Irrational Man? Exactly). If they shelve this, it might make people want to see it more.

When they act like this, it seems like some people actively, enthusiastically want Woody Allen to be a child molester. There’s not a lot of moral high ground there, and even less regard for his alleged victim.

That’s more than enough for a lot of people, apparently.
