Yeah that Nicholson charisma does a lot of heavy lifting. I’ve never been scared of his Joker, though. Ledger’s Joker is one of the most frightening movie monsters, IMO.

IMO The Joker shouldn’t be truly “funny” in the long run. Ledger’s Joker does get laughs several times in the movie, but the truth about the character - that he’s a monster - never gets lost. I find that far more effective.

Um...the hostage video he sends to the news begs to differ. Also all the corpses he leaves in his wake with Glasgow smiles.

Batman speaks in a purposefully-artificial voice. So does The Joker. It’s not supposed to sound naturalistic.

What makes you think those drivers weren’t in on it? Also, it happens so quickly that by the time any calls were made - assuming a bus driver would have the means to call the authorities about this phantom bus - The Joker probably turned down another street and disappeared.

Psycho’s opening sequence? I mean, it’s a good scene, but I don’t think it’s a landmark.
