The idea that Springsteen would repurpose, without any changes, one of his songs for a spec script is hilarious to me.

Eh different strokes. I never had a problem with it.

Yeah that Nicholson charisma does a lot of heavy lifting. I’ve never been scared of his Joker, though. Ledger’s Joker is one of the most frightening movie monsters, IMO.

Yeah I’m not sure about that take either.

The Joker is far superior to John Doe.

Oh come on he absolutely would.

Burton was wrong to kill The Joker.

Nicholson said he was “playing the costume.”

IMO The Joker shouldn’t be truly “funny” in the long run. Ledger’s Joker does get laughs several times in the movie, but the truth about the character - that he’s a monster - never gets lost. I find that far more effective.

Um...the hostage video he sends to the news begs to differ. Also all the corpses he leaves in his wake with Glasgow smiles.

Batman speaks in a purposefully-artificial voice. So does The Joker. It’s not supposed to sound naturalistic.

What makes you think those drivers weren’t in on it? Also, it happens so quickly that by the time any calls were made - assuming a bus driver would have the means to call the authorities about this phantom bus - The Joker probably turned down another street and disappeared.

Psycho’s opening sequence? I mean, it’s a good scene, but I don’t think it’s a landmark.

Counter-counterpoint: the third act is great.

Wow. I thought Grand Budapest Hotel was deeply sad and moving.

I find a lot of Nolan’s work - and especially The Dark Knight - to be very emotionally engaging. The final Two-Face hostage sequence is as heartbreaking as it is tense, to give one example.

Oh come on Raul Julia was really good.

Really impressive how that silent film managed to capture the 80's so well.

His character goes out heroically, if I remember correctly. He sacrifices himself so the rest of the team can get onboard.

He “stars alongside” for about 25 minutes...
