It wasn’t that short a time. He was digging at his arm for a while. He then mounted and rode with Dolores to the site, quite a distance, apparently. Then fired his gun. The average human would have been bleeding heavily and/or passing out.  

Team Maeve all the way! She was so amazing, and she better be back in season 3. Dolores’ arc was boring. There’s only so much you can do with a villain arc with a villain who has no depth. 

The oddity I noticed was that William was digging into his arm, but not appearing to suffer any real pain, then joined up with Dolores and is shooting a gun with the arm that he was cutting up, which he didn’t even bandage. That’s pretty much impossible for a human.
