Agreed. Great line and brilliant stunt casting.
"Yewoooooo-oo-oo-oo can not saaaaaay… 'FUCK!' "
I love that show. I know that routine by heart. I'm in the choir.
There is a difference. There's also not.
Don't rewrite history. Cosby was a huge inspiration for Pryor whose early work sounds like a Bill Cosby impersonation. Lucky for us, Pryor ditched those training wheels and evolved to create work that inspired Eddie Murphy, Chappelle, and so many more.
In fairness to Dave, most black comics have done essentially the same voice ever since.
Good thing Dave had all those years to improve on the version Pryor invented.
In 1985, my step mom gave 16-yr-old me two 10-packs of these red and gold beauties for Christmas. One of the best gifts ever.
…hypnotic to watch the reels spin, while the VU meters stroke the beat.
Amen. I also miss the funny Eddie Murphy.
Good points except for the Chappelle clip. Dave was actually supporting Cosby, who'd bashed black youth culture without filtering it for the media. Granted, Cosby's scolding back then is now painfully hypocritical.
That episode led to my knowing the definition of "lemon party."
Agreed. I can get behind NASA updating it but not using the whole screen to display the numbers so they're huge and visible a 100 yards away is a massive waste.
Thanks for the fun, intriguing post.
You mean, fucked it in front of everybody.
There's a time and a place for everything.
Remember that you're judging these fonts (half of which were developed in 1983) as somebody who's probably always had tons of font choices. That's because of the Mac and these fonts you're so casually knocking.
This makes me think Abrams will get back to what made the originals so great: characters and story.
He inspires in me a new hope that we've seen the last of Lucas's fixation on CGI and grandiose digital sets.
Yes but glad to see it again.
Thank you for adding this. Based on the headline, I immediately thought of John Berkey's art, without knowing his name.
I've thought the same thing. Offer a package deal with better concession stand stuff and they may be on to something.
