I hate to say it but your parents are bad dog owners. If they know their dog is aggressive and has bitten children and they've gotten training/advice on how to be more assertive and not let the dog be the alpha and yet they either refuse or don't follow up on the training then that is on them.

Spreading lies again. Even when pits were bred for bull baiting and dog fighting, they were bred to specifically NOT be human aggressive so as not to attack their handlers. It's only in the last few decades b/c of irresponsible breeders and owners that some pits have become human aggressive.
