Good for you. That was the proper way to handle it. Not everything has to be a lawsuit if the other person is accepting responsibility for the problem.

I hate to say it but your parents are bad dog owners. If they know their dog is aggressive and has bitten children and they've gotten training/advice on how to be more assertive and not let the dog be the alpha and yet they either refuse or don't follow up on the training then that is on them.
