Really? I thought the general consensus was that Darabont made season 1 great, and the show got much worse (where's Sophia?) as the budget got slashed and the showrunners got replaced.

The Simpsons also solidified its writing staff around that time as well. You got Conan and Swartzwelder doing some of the best work of their careers in that timeframe IIRC.
