The scene where Jon was suffocating was just excellent television. I had trouble breathing during it.

That was epic. The battlefield scenes outside Winterfell were the best I have ever seen on television, and it might just be the awe of the moment, but I can’t remember a film that did any better either.
Targaryeans were allowed to have more than one wife, and the children of other wives were seen as legitimate, so he isn’t a bastard if Lyanna was married to Rhaegar as a second wife - just raised as such by Eddard to protect him from Robert Baratheon who wanted all of the Targaryans killed. .
I think they’d guard her as she was pregnant with his illegitimate child and they knew if the Baratheons found out about it, the kid would be murdered.
not if Rhaegar and Lyanna wed in secret.. or eleoped.. Polygamy isn’t really a problem to a group of people who married brother and sister when they could.
There is some speculation that R revived the polygamist traditions from earlier and married L before his death, indicating why the Kingsguard remained guarding her potentially.
