Ya, I came from Boys’ and there was a learning curve for sure, but I put my head down and learned the game. I still occasionally play on from a cover because I’m used to seeing rakes.

I am a (young-ish, I’m 26) official of several different youth and High School sports. It’s my primary side-hustle, I’m a Civil Servant in my real life and I used to be a teacher.
He was a famous hockey player (really) who owned a couple of donut shops. After he tragically died in a crash caused by NHL doctors giving him too many drugs (and him being drunk) his business partners went national.
If we’re diving into our T.S. Elliot theater quotes like James Comey, it’s the first one that’s the “greatest treason/to do the right thing for the wrong reason,” but these aren’t even the wrong reasons! These are just generally-slimy people who happen to be right. It doesn’t make you a bad person to hold a position…
D. Etta Wilcoxon is a slimy ally of Sheriff Napoleon, but she’s right about this one. Even a bankrupt clock is right occasionally.
In case anyone brings up India 1950, India withdrew from the World Cup in 1950, but the famous myth that they boycotted because FIFA would not let them compete barefoot is not true. While India had qualified (based on the withdrawals of their three opponents in Asia) and FIFA was going to require footwear, the All…
Eh, even if he’s not as good at baseball, he will never not be a Good Baseball Man.
See you at Burke on the 25th? I’ll be the one wearing a West Indies Cricket Team hat.
This is a fair point, and part of the reason we planners try to convince developers. If they set up their community a certain way, folks who want that kind of community will make full use of it.

It remains surprisingly difficult to convince developers focused on suburban-style single family pod subdivisions that they might be better off in the long run providing walkable neighborhoods, even though the evidence is right in front of their faces in our own city.
Part of my job is putting up signs notifying the public of upcoming rezoning hearings, and we have an enormous one coming up next week, so I spent nine hours Monday and Tuesday and another six Wednesday and Thursday walking around our whole city in my floppy hat and hiking boots putting up bright purple signs at…
The IPL is amazing, though, and everyone should be in love with it.
As a referee who once audibly said “Oh shit, son, get buckets!” during a game, yes.
+1 Rodgers on St. Elmo’s Fire in the second half.
Sir Don Bradman never celebrated like this new generation, they just don’t appreciate the game like they used to. What’s with these “colorful uniforms” and “helmets,” real cricketers didn’t need that.
The Rough Riders went bankrupt (sort of, in a very complicated saga) and were eventually basically replaced by the Redblacks.
Like the Browns, except that they originally tried obnoxiously to get everyone to spell it REDBLACKS instead of Redblacks.
Because we’re here and thus convenient, we’re different enough to be scary, and they haven’t been able to get rid of us yet, so we must be doing something.
Thanks, I’m glad!
