I love this idea. It keeps the monuments in tact and makes them something people will still visit, but also paints them with the shame they deserve. They represent the ideas our country used to have. Ideas we are now ashamed of and no longer have.

I’m European so I don’t know, but aren’t there any Civil War museums, or museums of slavery or the African American experience, in these towns? That would be the place for these statues, in the appropriate historical context. And if there aren’t, why not?

I honestly don’t know how I feel about this verdict. I mean, everything I’ve read about the case tells me this girl is horrible and morally culpable, but I just don’t know enough about the law to say whether she’s legally culpable. And even if she is, I don’t know that I think she should be.
