Dude, it's Kubrick's ending. It's even depicted in the Taschen Kubrick Archives book.

In Soviet Russia, Oblivion gate closes you!
Have my fingers crossed right now for an official Final Fantasy XII HD announcement for PS4 in June at E3, here.
Also, it's "Aeris," not "Aerith," by gum!!
Sepinwall apparently wasn't a huge fan of this episode either:
I dunno — just about every episode so far this season has been different from every other episode, and they don't seem to be repeating themselves too much conceptually (apart from this one being part of a loose thematic "trilogy," of course).
Like, "1800s Disney"-style.
As someone who was holding out already-slim hopes for an eventual BD/HD
release of the first, early seasons, this news somewhat bothers me; as
someone for whom The Simpsons basically ended with Season 8…not so much, honestly.
Keith David deserves all the money. Without question.
Can't wait to see LEGO Cheadle.
"…Almost."
It also has to do with SGA regulations and cast-salaries — if you put someone in the opening credits of a show, they automatically get more money, plus are entitled to residuals (as opposed to if they're placed in the closing credits). The deals made with Keith David and Paget Brewster reflected this, quite probably.
A few months ago, Harmon also mentioned that they've actually taken the money that ordinarily would've gone to the departed cast-members (Glover, Chase, Brown), and reinvested it back into the show this season, on top of the new money Yahoo! is throwing at them now.
I'd love to see Justified do it.
There were nine cast members introduced in Season One, and of those, we've only lost three (Chevy Chase, Donald Glove, Yvette Nicole Brown).
It won't quite be fourth-season Community, but there'll certainly be something vital missing without him (all due respect to Mark Frost's unsung accomplishments on the show).
They actually killed one of the show's African-American characters with a literal revolving door in Jennifer Lynch's episode, LOL.
Directing The Walking Dead (and pretty damn well, to boot).
It was a small group of men who left last week with Whitley (five or six other soldiers), but some of them stayed behind with Jones at the facility.
Although, had Virtuality gone to series, someone other than Nikolaj Coster-Waldau likely would've gotten cast as Jaime Lannister instead.
