Not getting the right tool for the job. Yeah, you can replace a Subaru lower control arm bushing at home, but using a press (which is probably at a shop) is significantly easier and probably doesn’t involve a Sawzall.

Hands down it’s underestimating the time it will take you to complete a job. My rule of thumb is to think of everything that could go wrong, factor that time in, and then double it.
