I'm not even sure I understand what you mean. Choosing someone based on name recognition is just as bad as choosing someone based on gender. I'm obviously not talking about if someone hasn't seen any of the movies and are blindly trying to find some reason to vote for someone. In that case, sure, go ahead and vote

That's interesting. I can maybe see not liking Elroy but HATE? He's not even in the first couple of episodes that much. And you felt so strongly about it that this is your first comment? I'm not saying your opinion is wrong, just sort of peculiar.

But it's also unfair to women. Why would you want to get a bump based on your gender and not the quality of your work? Vote for the films you think did the best job. Period. True equality means that you judge the art based on the art and not outside factors such as gender/race/etc.

But of course it's going to be subjective! That's art. Why would you ever try to nominate anything based on how objectively good you think it is? That's impossible and will only lead to madness. There is no objective truth in art. For instance, I love The Master but if someone else says they don't that doesn't make

But don't you think her being a woman shouldn't be a factor you consider when choosing who has the best cinematography? Are you saying that all of these cinematographers are equal in your eyes and she gets the bump because she's a woman? Because that seems really unfair to me. Or are you saying you genuinely thought

I'm probably just misunderstanding you, and if so, my bad, but are you saying you'd vote for her specifically because she's a woman?

The cinematography category was stacked though. I wouldn't kick anyone out of that bunch.

Correct.

Why you gotta go and delete comments though?

Is this satire?

But David Oyelowo didn't deserve a nomination when people like Jake Gyllenhaal and Ralph Fiennes didn't get a nomination. I think you can see why this is such a tricky topic when peoples opinions play such a large role. Of the people nominated for best director, 3 deserved their spot (according to consensus) and 1

Once again, this is a very nuanced issue that people like to address in very un-nuanced ways. Sure, racism probably plays a part here but it is just one factor among various other factors including but not limited to star power, oscar-bait, how people campaigned, how many people saw the movies, and the actual quality

Steve Jobs got a nomination for Fassbender and a nomination for Winslet. Danish Girl got a nomination for Redmayne, Vikander, production design, and costumes. I'd hardly call that cleaning up.

Really? You'd categorize Steve Jobs and The Danish Girl as cleaning up ? Bit of a stretch, don't ya think?

He was also hilarious in Tangerine

There also wouldn't be an article if there wasn't a song, ya dingus.

Of course, all the comments are directed at their public personas and not the song.

I love all flavors of Kanye, this is just the flavor I love the most. I can genuinely say that any fears I've had about Swish being a dud have recently been alleviated. I just hope that, whatever direction he decides to go in, it continues to be both unexpected and innovative like all the albums that came before it.

Yes. I prefer the more visceral, experimental, Yeezus-era Kanye.

About time, AV Club. For the record, I think this is the best thing he's done since Yeezus.
