It’s the most infuriating thing they do. Usually they’ll at least mention that it’s converted from Euros/Pounds/whatever, but they never attach context that cars are priced higher overseas and taxes are included.
It’s worth pointing out that the $44k price quoted in the article is a direct conversion of the base price in Euros in Germany. Which includes 19% sales tax. Knock that off, and it’s just under $36k at current exchange rates.
Providing all the prices in USD without providing the source currency really gives the wrong impression of what this costs. This wouldn’t be anywhere close to as expensive of sold here.
GTIs are $38k+ where this model is sold.

Maybe you’re why I don’t like watches.
You do realize that when she’s older she’ll blame you for this habit.
ok, so maybe we should just start using “better names” for things (same as for animals, where a llama is “giraffe sheep” and skunk is “fart squirrel.”)
Jeep excluded, FCA’s definition of “enthusiast” seems to start and end with engine size. It’s really one-dimensional to me. Not to mention the chassis are really outdated.
So when will we find out that every VW EV actually has a tiny diesel engine powering it?
Pen...day...hoe!
Telling kids what they can and can’t wear to school, isn’t quite as big of an issue in the UK, as it might be in the US. The vast majority of our schools have a uniform. This is a good thing for two main reasons, it identifies which school the kids go to, and it reduces instances of the poorer kids made to feel bad…
