Wow. I feel so dumb. It was there all along. More shows need... um... what are those things called... scripts? Plots? I’d gotten tired of funny but meandering semi-impromptu, episodic shows that I’d forgotten how great a show can be when what could have been a throw-away visual, XX episodes…

Did the other gems ever fuse with Rose? Would they know that she was a diamond if they did? Also, it’s pretty impressive that Rose was never poofed (or if she was, that Opal was able to hide her). 

And it would be shitty as hell with an 80's opener with a gravely voice over telling us the back story. “Five-thousand years ago....” etc. etc. This structure is awesome and doesn’t treat the audience like a flock of flighty idiots. 

I’ve always thought it was a weird oversight that they included pearls at all, but as the show has progressed, the fundamental non-gemness of a pearl has been more important. 

I had totally forgotten about that line (and I just watched the whole series in about 2 days while sick). When I first heard it, I just brushed it off as “hold your stuff” like an attendant or a bell hop, not like a bag.

You can tell all you need to know about a news outlet by where they put the scare quotes in stories about this. Some put it around “joke,” and the shittier ones put it around “racist.”

The main story line was engrossing in these first couple of episodes (though, I thought the music during the gallows scene was a little too much. It seems that they do that sort of thing to take the edge off and remind us, loudly, that we’re watching a TV show. I’m reminded of Bleodel’s post-op breakdown in season 1…
