as someone from ohio i’ve been saying this to deaf ears for months. this hokey-agreeable-midwesterner schtick is not only insulting, it’s total fucking bullshit. Kasich is as orthodox a republican as the next guy in line, but he doesn’t have the balls or charisma to do battle with the likes of trump so he’s trying to

i know! and i consider myself a progressive in almost every sense of the word (i mean... i post here, don’t i?) but those are issues that i have yet to see a democratic politician pushing or speaking on. its important to me to give the parties a fair shake and actually read their positions rather than taking their

i actually think having people like caitlyn jenner who don’t fit the ‘old white racist rich dude’ mold will do some good for the party. there is a lot of good in the generalized republican economic platform and there needs to be push/pull to keep the political machine moving. unfortunately, the parts that i personal

heh... well hey there neighbor: i’m from cleveland proper. i actually married a fella from right south of your district (northern sandusky-ish... i don’t pretend to know the geography of the freefolk beyond the wall)

ah thanks for the correction. I haven’t lived in state for a while.

the gerrymandering is disgraceful. my hometown is smack in the middle of the biggest blue blob on the map (cuyahoga.) we are still solidly democrat but by extending the districts southward most of our neighbors are now represented by republicans.

yeah, i actually went to school with one of his relatives (I want to say niece?) who campaigned hard for him all throughout his political career. he always seemed like a good guy, but state-level politics in ohio are shady and its hard to stay out of scandals and keep a clean reputation. I’ve also known Ed FitzGerald

the only reason anyone tolerates him is because of how fucking abysmal strickland and taft (especially taft) were. i find it cute that he mistakes that for genuine enthusiasm for his leadership. he’s still an embarrassment to the state just... barely a hair less than the last few clowns we’ve naively elected.

its really easy to buy a counterfeit syrian passport (about $80-$120 USD,) and most european countries won’t turn you away if you simply fail to produce identification and claim to be syrian. with germany offering such generous amnesty, why wouldn’t economic migrants take advantage of it? their countries might not be

we didn’t like the irish either and nowadays you don’t get anymore ‘white christian’ than them in our cultural zeitgeist.

its also important to note that not all of these “refugees” are syrian or even escaping a warzone. there’s a huge percentage of economic migrants taking advantage of Merkel’s open-door policy, which is losing support quickly among natives. many of these economic migrants refuse to show a passport (making them

the US has always imposed immigration quotas.

the one on the right is my favorite. the one in the middle tows the “put the big girl in a high-necked printed dress” party line. and the other two just look like sacks.

every time a hyped-up “stylish” plus line comes out it disappoints. loud colors, shapeless cuts... a literal garbage bag looking thing? is it that hard to flatter bigger gals with normal cuts and colors?

i only scrolled down to comment on this... jez commentariat you never let me down.

thats not what he said, though... he said there’s no precedent to use the constitution as a basis to legislate abortion one way or another.

yeah, and I relate actually. half my family are latino and could barely speak english a generation ago... but in their efforts to assimilate they distanced themselves as much as possible from that heritage. I’m as white looking as can be— seriously, I get taken for Nordic— and I do not pretend to know the struggles

the ability to pass as white is a blessing and a curse. sadly, it can open up more opportunities in broader society (implicitly, at least) but it can also shut you out of your own community to an extent. white-passing folks who refer back to whichever minority community they relate to can be taken for try-hards.

i’d be shocked if this law was actually enforced to that degree for turnstile jumpers... it seems to me like a crime that a judge is unlikely to waste his time on let alone throw the book at someone for. that same law— and that same potential punishment— also applies to credit card theft, which is pretty major and
