Given that a large part of the reason why we would want such a financial transaction tax is precisely to defang the financial services sector, what you’re describing is not so much a loss, as saying we’ll win in an entirely different way.

I would guess that Sweden’s financial markets are vulnerable to losing their business in a way that US markets are not.
