You didn’t actually say why European examples are meaningless other than listing rules that our leagues impose over their teams. The leagues create these artificial barriers so that they can protect their investment and print money. You make a fine point about “fairness” if you are into that kind of thing, but college

I agree that it won’t immediately affect the quality of play of the MLS. It would raise the quality of play in the lower leagues as teams there can invest more money and get more ambitious with their goals, thus pushing teams at the top. Teams with less resources will have to take advantage of market inefficiencies

Disclaimer: I am from Chicago and have no rooting interest in Detroit.

I think you’re getting hung up on the fact that I am calling the MLS a complete failure. I am not, it is a fantastic on field product with some great players. I am asking one question: Is this the best we can do in America?

To address your claims

Ok I am glad I asked. You are correct on both accounts. Pro-MLS’ers point to the league quality as rightly improving, but neglect the moral and business aspects which we agree have to be better. Anti-MLS’ers cling to this “retirement league” aspect which is wrong and doesn’t help our ultimate goal: Best league and

instead of attacking my credibility, please add to the argument. Your strengths are the number of games you’ve watched. Do you see any tension when a player on an artificially low salary takes the field with a $7m a year Giovinco?

Another small business fails, then. Rayo OKC’s situation, Fort Lauderdale situation, and some of the better teams leaving doesn’t help. But, it’s an organic outcome. The USL gets its shot to grow as #2 now. Teams like Cincinnati, Sacramento, and Detroit City FC deserve their chance to grow because they have grown a

It’s not about resembling the best leagues for the sake of trying to copy them, but its doing what is best for the soccer fans, players and youth players in this country. Free market that rewards savvy business and good teams while punishing poor business decisions and poor performance.

Now, the immediate rebuttal to

Small concessions by the MLS and NCAA ignore the fact that fans, players, youth players, and parents are not a true concern and that money is king in our current landscape.

The MLS has yet to give its players true free agency in their employment decisions. The NCAA is the biggest pyramid exploitation scheme in the

Two things:
Oscar Pareja should be the next USMNT manager because whatever he is putting in the water at FC Dallas needs to infect the youth pools across the country.

Second, this makes sporting sense that Martino would come to Atlanta because of his Argentina connections at a time where the MLS has a lot of successful

How have they actually succeeded in American soccer? The entire system is dysfunctional, there is no free agency like in other “successful” sports leagues here. Look up Detroit City FC to see the real failure that us small-time nobodies are going to miss out on. It’s an organically created team with community roots

SICK! *per his family pronounciation

They could say nothing at all like you mention at the bottom of your comment, instead of Alllivesmatter. Depends if we believe that is cynical as well.

I have carried that sentiment for years that he would return to Barca as soon as they show interest. Good call, sir.

This is the typical Arsenal game of the year, shows all the promise of a great season. Hector Bellerin will (hopefully not) suffer a long-term injury, Sanchez will pick up a “knock” and Koscielny will forget he is good. The kicker? Jack Wilshere will do something awesome.

Whichever member of the press didn’t ask about tax returns would get more access and more content.

I pray for a Leicester v Barca knockout round.

I can see what you’re going for, but Torres failed to score in his first 900 minutes for Chelsea, for a 24 game drought! I’d say Cavani is on Liverpool Benteke level, a shade of amber to Torres inferno red..

SALT!

Ok I got you. I misunderstood your comment and jumped to conclusions. The soccer press are hounds for sure.
