I think it’s just scrunched up like that because she’s sitting - sitting in corsets can be a little awkward. That doesn’t make it any less painful looking, but it probably looks super good when she’s standing.

It’s okay for there to be jokes in your sci-fi. Not everything has to be about grimdark distopias, the end of the world, or pretentious manga adaptions which think they’re making some kind of point by having Tom Cruise die fifty times.
