This Neilsen study suggests that NBA fans are poorer than MLB and NHL fans. The Atlantic doesn't mention NFL fans, I'm guessing because Super Bowl viewers are basically a cross section of America and uninteresting statistically.

While I agree with the premise that FIFA wouldn't subject a men's World Cup to turf, the tournament is largely being played at CFL stadiums, and temporary grass laid over turf isn't particularly better.
