I know what context is, and I’m not confused. It seems maybe you are? The ‘same shittiness’ I’m referring to is ‘doing dubious shit in order to get what you want, rather than appealing through the established channels’.

I get the feeling that Elsie will come back (if they don’t show you die, I always assume you’re still alive. Being ‘snatched’ is a classic chevkov’s gun for a return, later). And I also think that Felix will become much more important. They spent a lot of time showing him wanting to be a coder, which plays as a reason

Reality begs to differ. But, again, good luck with your great idea™ about doing the exact same shittiness in reverse. I’m sure it’ll all work out perfectly, like when Tennessee cut all that funding and private citizens are expected to pick up the slack (that’s how society should work, right?).

If ‘exposing’ racists (who are regularly exposed) is the epitome of your intentions, at the expense of representing your constituents via established procedure (and let’s remember that when the GOP rams dumb shit down people’s throats, using sly fuckery - turnabout being fair play and all), then I suppose so. Congrats

Well, look where eye-for-an-eye got them. Keep banging that drum Hammurabi.

It’s always shitty to do anything out of spite. Passing legislation to spite a city is never going to be a good thing.

How are you still not getting this? Watch the fucking video that was linked to you by two different people. It even has closed captioning (auto-generated) in case you’re in a spot where listening to audio is difficult.

Nah, you can miss all of us with that “why don’t you stand up for these poor folks” bullshit[...]

As a DirecTv installer for East Texas, it was always hilarious to me how much directions changed between urban and rural areas. It was a perfect gradation.

Whoops! “Chose” is a hard word to use in this instance. I agree that the US is modernizing, and its workforce has to modernize too, but you know there are extenuating circumstances.

Oh, it’s not the reasonable POV I’m worried about. It’s the tone-deaf analogy comparing the racist whites bitching about the progress of POCs to the reasonable POCs bitching about the progress of racist whites (at the expense of POCs).

I know I’m going to get killed for this, here on Gawker, but that whole first paragraph is terrifying:

I’ve actually coded tax software, my friend (that means working with the IRS on their specs). There’s nothing ‘unrealistic’ about this, in any sense. Itemized deductions can still occur. Watch the damn video. This system just prevents the IRS or the public from having to do any work when they are better suited to use

Now playing

They’re evil because they lobby, not because they offer you a choice in the shit sandwich of a situation that comes about BECAUSE they lobbied. It’s not hard to connect the dots between “lobbies for forced personal tax form submission” and “is the biggest company that offers personal tax form submission

That would be entirely up to the context of the topic. Racism is no more meaningful than ‘classification’, as it often times is exactly the same thing. Humans are pattern-matching machines and prejudices of all kinds (racism included) are often borne of making erroneous conclusions based on anecdotal pattern evidence.

I go the opposite way: Income tax is a burden on the proletariat, and we should move to a strictly sales-tax based plan.

Texan politicians are a bunch of fucking idiots, but this seems fine. They didn’t eliminate the course, so the handwringing about people doing better when they have Mexican-American studies courses is nonsense. The course still exists, so those people will presumably continue to do better because of it.

It’s not about whether you are confused by it. It’s about whether it is A) accurate (it’s not) or B) able to be reasonable confused by (it is).
