It is the state deciding. But it’s not the state making the changes. Whether “Motherfucker” gets changed to “Monkey-fighter” or “Mumbo fumbo” is left up to the private entity.

Fair enough. Then I have to say that I disagree with you, almost entirely. Like I said in another comment, I see no reason to distinguish between substantive and non-substantive edits. All edits should be noted, and trackable. I should be able to see, in some way, the post as it was originally printed, and all

But, you see, it wouldn’t be a quibble if people argued the actual issue, rather than arguing what is and isn’t censorship.

A little conflation, there. Movies are edited due to the FCC, yes, but they are not edited by the FCC. They are edited by private entities in order to comply with the FCC. Therefore the censorship is actually being done by the private entity.

That was my second thought, too. The first was “Damn, this is sad, and it shouldn’t be this way.” But the second was definitely, “Oh, wait...why the fuck would any POC sign up to intern in THIS White House?!”

I’m going to go ahead and blame Kinja for this, since it’s not very descriptive, but let me try to clarify my previous comment. You said this:

Censorship is what happens when the state an authority restricts your freedom of speech because of the content of that speech, you ding dong.

If everything and everybody is evil, by being complicit in evil, then what actually IS evil? That reduces “evil” to “normal”. As professor Garden put it, evil suggests something outside of the norm.

As a programmer, I can assure you, all technology has to be balanced with practicality. Otherwise it’s useless.

Fuck all, it’s refreshing to see actual critical thought and nuance applied to questions and topics, rather than self-congratulatory emotional response, rationalized by hardline stance, as is de riguer for Gawker and it’s comments sections.

Agreed. I’ve been reading Gawker sites for years and it has never been terrible, and it seems to have gotten better, but I still see it at least once a week.

OP is referring to all of the editors notes that you don’t see. It’s hard to prove that one, though, since - you know - they don’t note it.

Agreed. There is no more useful skill, in a platformer, than having a greater degree of control over your jumps. See also: Mario’s tails/capes, Aladdin’s sheets, Dixie Kong’s ponytail, etc...
