I was very disappointed in Barbarian, completely for the reason you say.  It is an old trope that characters do things that make no sense.  But, in Barbarian, this was taken to an extreme, to the point that I found it annoying.

I guarantee that, if the actors and setting were all from Hong Kong (or elsewhere in China), and they were speaking in Mandarin, you wouldn’t have a problem.

Of course, the premise is utterly ludicrous. That’s besides the point.

Is it fun and engaging?  To that, the entire series (through the early episodes of Season 4

As a society, we decided that dogs and cats should be euthanized rather than watching them suffer. Meanwhile human euthanasia, even in the wake of a horrible, drawn out, debilitating disease, is verboten and, in fact, considered murder.

Considering this, I’d say that most people would rather watch a human get killed

The ending sequence of Heat is pure suspense. Just a top notch set piece.

I love, love, love Last of the Mohicans.

However, for how incredible its score is, the sound levels of the dialogue are very spotty. Mann seemed to be going for a naturalistic sound, but the dialogue frequently gets lost in the mix.

And the directors cut is useless.  From what I recall, it ends up butchering that end

So its The OC without the bagels?

Because the Architect’s speech sounded super intriguing and deep, but when parsed, it said a whole lot of nothing. And it never amounted to anything in Revolutions, which is probably the bigger crime.

When the original came out, I remember thinking that it needed an extra 15-20 minutes to wrap up the story. It felt unfinished.

Then came word about the sequels and I thought, well, now the ending of the first one makes sense.

And then I saw the sequels and realized that my initial impression was right all along.

Too humble? One of the best things about Trebek was that it was clear that, deep down, he felt better and more erudite than the contestants.
