@dan: the iphone has net connectivity, yet you still need a fully functional desktop/laptop to download OS updates. and, as has been discussed at length, the iPad runs on the same OS as the iPhone so it's unlikely that it'll be any different

I think I might actually be willing to spring for the animal. Our cat sheds it's body weight in fur seemingly every 72 hours and while the dyson we have sucks it right off the couch, it takes me 15 minutes to transform the thing into something that can reach the top of the couch.
