We’ll probably never have another games industry crash as long as a vibrant indie scene still exists, but boy, the major publishers are sure trying.  Hopefully, those employees find someplace soft to land, even if it is on whatever upcoming bloated AAA game is on the horizon.

The multiple Downeys can be a bit distracting, but I suppose it makes sense as this is a subjective retelling of his time as a double agent. To him, they are all versions of the same dangerous fool with undue influence on his life.

I bounced off Fallout 4. There definitely was some interesting stuff in there, but I got tired of the Radiant-style procedurally-generated missions (Kill all the [random group] in [random area], go get some McGuffin, etc.) and I just didn’t really care too much for the tower-defense thing.

First thing for me. That or the Beatles’ “Good Day Sunshine”.

Man, I never know how to feel about these weird, shapeless Elimination challenges. On one hand, it gives the chefs more space to be creative; on the other hand, one of the criterias they are being judged on is how closely they hew to this kinda vague, subjective parameter.

Even Christopher Nolan was gagged by The Curse’s finale

That’s the way you can tell it’s good satire:  there is a portion of the audience that believe it to be real.

It is on my radar.

I think I’m done with Tomba! 2: The Evil Swine Return (PS1) for now. My progress is blocked by a bunch of precision platforming over an instant-death drop. I like the unfolding Metroidvania-esque gameplay and the colorful design, but I was just getting too frustrated.

I will make a similar appeal to the one Cord Jefferson made in his Oscar acceptance speech for American Fiction: Instead of making a select few bloated multimillion games (that must do crazy business just to break even), why not take a chance on several smaller-scale projects (any of which could be a breakout hit,

Is AFK Journey related to AFK Arena, a game which I’ve seen a billion ads for, yet still have no idea what kind of game it actually is?

Honestly, The Zone of Interest could’ve been a short film.

I can barely keep up with game decades-old, much less last year, so I’m probably not much help there. Case in point: I just finished up my playthrough of Tomba! for PS1. It got less frustrating towards the end as my HP bulked up and I got much better traversal options (including a flying-dog fast-travel system). It is

So I guess Dave has just gone back to his home planet, huh? I’m not bothered by his non-presence on LCK, though I am bothered by the lack of comment on it. Whenever Dave’s not on screen, we should all be asking, “Where’s Dave?”

I’m not sure whether that is a mistake, a subhead written by an AI, or some dumb April Fool’s joke.

I feel much the same way about many of the Soulsborne games’ more troll-ish impulses (including the invasions). Yeah, it can sometimes be incredibly aggravating, especially when a lot of progess is on the line, but other times, I just kinda have to laugh at the cruel absurdity: “Good on you, Dark Souls, in my greed,

I have finished with Discworld Noir for the PS1. I came into this wanting to like it—I had liked the previous Discworld games—but it was just so ugly (again, I’m not a fan of the prerendered CGI look), slow, tedious, and plodding that I was glad to see the credits roll. There’s an interesting late-game wrinkle where
