No good place to discuss this, so I’ll just plop my soapbox down here and let the opinions fly:

I get where you are coming from. I definitely get the anger and frustration.

Dammit.  Now I’m going to have “We Got The Beat” stuck in my head all day.

I think it was when he threatened to “wipe his hind-quarters” with Perry’s PI license that I realized it.  Something about that sudden turn of profane ire really brought out the Frewer.

Winner!  Everyone else can go home!

The BV Blub! That’s my favorite bite...erm...site!

What a disgrace to the memory of the King!  What would Elvis Presley say if he were alive today?

Ahhh...I suppose that makes sense given context and everything. It’s sometimes hard for me to keep all these disparate leads straight in the old cabeza.

I’m a little embarrassed that it took me as long as it did (the recess scene) to realize that Matt Frewer was playing the judge. Always happy to see him in a role.

Honestly, not sure if you’re taking the piss, but the word that might lose cultural context is not “thick” (at least among my American peers), but “See You Next Thursday” can be pretty offensive around these parts.

Takahashi Miike is an international treasure!  One of these days he’ll slow down and I’ll actually catch up on his filmography...

Also true. To be clear, I’m not trying to defend the trope. I’m not personally offended, but as a man, there’s a lot less pressure on me to subscribe to some fit ideal.

I didn’t get into it in my OP, because I was trying (likely failing) to not turn it into a dissertation, but I think some of it stems from the lower (probably much lower, if we’re comparing them to the US) prevalence of obesity in their culture. Some of that probably could be credited to a generally healthier diet,

(*ahem* rhymes with “Schmall Schmart”)

I’m playing through Persona 4 Golden right now. I’m probably way behind other commentariat on the game (I’m not that far after the death of Mooroka), so many of these observations have probably been made before, not that I’ve ever let that stop me:

If,as so many defenders of the old racist name insist, they are just looking to tap into the “warrior” tradition, they could always put in the time, do research, consult with experts (both from academia and tribal councils), and come with something both inoffensive and powerful. Language is such a powerful force and

Small bit of joy in this miserable situation: Our state is instituting a mandatory mask mandate (try saying that three times fast!) on Saturday, but many stores in the area are getting ahead of it. I went to a local grocery store a few days ago and I was genuinely pleased to see that most of the people there were

I enjoyed it as I read it, but, pending a reread, I’ll be damned if I can remember the whole of the plot.

These kinds of “bardcore”* adaptations have been popping up more often lately and, to be honest, I kind of love them. I keep waiting for them to grow old or become embarrassing (outside the overbearing white dorkiness of it all) but it hasn’t yet.
