It's definitely the law. Supposedly the lawsuit just asks them to keep the late ballots separate, "in case the results are contested later".

What I don't get about 538 - Silver has said Trump's chances are higher there because they factor in the chance the polls are totally wrong. But, isn't the whole point of the model to make a prediction based on what the polls say? Isn't factoring in the chance the polls are wrong the same as factoring in the chance…

From what I've read, they're not reopening the case, they're just giving an addendum to the testimony, and they're legally required to give notice when they do so. All the media stories saying "reopened" are incorrect. We'll see if they make note of that!

Why would they bother to tell us this, rather than, say, reading the emails first, making a decision, and then announcing /that/ instead? How long does it take to read some emails?? "We found some new emails, the first letter is 'H', could be very important. Give us a few months to sound out the rest"

It's a nice thought, but why would he skip the Fox News debate?
