I would say that the sex offender decision is evidence that the judge believes him to be guilty of rape but recognizes the difficulty of proving that.

I think that depends on the consequences. He’s not being locked up or subjected to a prison environment that will scar him for life. He just shows up on lists as a potential sexual predator. At the age of 19, this guy ignored “no” and assaulted another person. I’m very ok with letting the world know he’s potentially…
Murderers are statistically unlikely to murder again, while most rapists are serial rapists.
It’s not really that complicated. The justice system already recognizes the idea of imposing more adult consequences on minors for more serious crimes. That’s why the concept of trying a minor as an adult exists.
Huh. I have often felt that the registry wasn’t a sound option since not everyone on there was actually a sexual threat to children. But let’s not forget - this guy DID in fact rape a 14 year old girl. So yes, he should absolutely be on the registry whether he will ever do it again or not. Want to know why I say this?…
You can’t be serious. Do you know how the judicial system works? Felony charges just do not fall off of your record seven years after you get out. This isn’t your credit report. Far less stigma for murder? This little shit just got acquitted of rape. If there is anything in this world that does not have a stigma at…
Exactly. And if he can go the next 15 years without committing another crime, and maybe even use it as an opportunity to educate others about consent by speaking with groups of young men or something, I’d be all for his removal. He would be 34 by the time he could get removed.
He raped a girl, he didn’t fucking steal a pack of gum.
Compiling a list of rapists who are likely to reoffend is what the list is for. These are his people.
I’m not sure rape is really something that should be chalked up to immaturity.
So someone who murders another at age 19 (or 18, or 24 as you seem to allege) should not be held responsible, as their brain hasn’t finished forming?
That’s cool I hope you support the age of consent being raised to 25.
I have no issues with this douche being on the sex offender registry, since he is one in every definition of the word. But I also doubt that the next 18-year-old rapist-to-be is weighing his options, he’s going to give a shit about some other asshole’s past convictions. Being tough on crime is really not effective as…
The victim’s age doesn’t prevent her from having lifelong consequences.
19 is plenty old enough to understand the concept of “don’t sexually assault someone.”
I have my reservations about the sex offender registry in general, but this is a great use of it. It means that during the next Senior Salute, some guy might decide pressuring a 14-year-old into sex isn’t worth spending the rest of your life on a list of rapists and pedophiles.
Well, I must now throw in my support for the ban on poop/vomit stories. They are no fun at all, if this is how they turn out. I’d rather read about “Caramel Sauce Lady” or a hundred “gluten intolerant” customers eating breadsticks than have to endure a poop/vomit story of this caliber.
“I have a God complex, but was too lazy too take the typical medical school route. So instead I inflict it on unsuspecting wait staff making $2.13/hr.”
Really, this is the only headline you ever need for Richard Cohen, until the day he finally shuffles off this mortal coil.
“He has an incentive to give me exceptional service, not some mediocre minimum”
