Firstly, a Prius starts at roughly 1/3 the cost of Tesla. The addressable market, especially in Europe and Asia, it night and day.
Nah. We currently own 3 Priuses, and I don’t believe they advanced the prospects of electrification. They are just ICE cars that get really good gas mileage. To me, their most notable qualities—at least in the 2008-2009 vintage we chose—are their relatively simple dashes and prominent Nav screen, nice leather seats,…
The Prius was an evolution, not a revolution. Only GM really developed a vehicle to take it head on. After Prius, electrification was seen as an expensive solution to increasing fuel mileage in a time of high gas prices. It was not a fundamental shift in transportation.
The Prius has been around how long? It barely moved the needle.
This one of the things I can’t figure out about all the Elon Musk hate in the world. Yeah, his stuff is a little rough around the edges, he misses a fair number of his self imposed deadlines, but can we look at what he’s actually accomplished for a minute?
did the prius really steal that much business away from other manufacturers though? or was it always just going to be drivers of corollas and camrys now with a new reason to buy a toyota?
Exactly. How many engineers sat on their asses and said that a rocket booster couldn’t be landed ass-end down without exploding? How many engineers said electric cars just don’t make sense because it would need thousands of batteries? How many sports critics said no team has ever come back from a 1-3 deficit in a…
What do you think is the magic number to curb range anxiety? I semi-annually do 8-9 hour trips in a day with only a potty and gas-up break; anything that would require me to stop even for a half hour for this trip would seriously make me reconsider. Even for work, a normal day could be 6+ hours of driving around…
There’s no way the Model 3 is going to break Tesla with anything short of some massive safety scandal with the design of the car that leads to loss of life. This is highly, highly unlikely from a company that has everything to loose, and even then Tesla is stockpiling cash to deal with anything that may crop up.
Just look at it this way. Tesla is the first new volume US automaker to come along in over 90 years. It’s an incredibly hard area to move into. Also, not counting the roadster, the Model S is their first attempt. It can only get better from here. Look at the first i-Phone. It’s pretty laughable today but look how far…
Also it’s a trademark brand name. Like Apple’s Retina Display. Which is probably not made out of retinas.
It’s the most important car of our lifetimes. Its the car that made other car makers realize they had to get off their asses and start innovating again.
Autopilot - flies the plane while the pilots baby sit it ready to take over if there’s any issues. Seems like a fine description.
or, “here’s a new battery that works.” why does N get a free pass on this? nobody else would. if my laptop battery was messed up out of the box i’d be getting a new battery or a refund.
cool, make some more nes classic editions.
Wow, three measley years, and in America because we “love” the XL so much the only way to get one of days outside of waiting for it to show up was to buy one from a scalper.
I’m glad I managed to get my black Friday NEW 3DS while I had the chance. I had a feeling something like this was going to happen soon especially since the smaller models of the 3DS practically didn’t exist.
