They do it because it’s good design. Mounting the screen high on the dash puts it level with the gauge cluster and near your line of sight. Your eyes don’t stray from the road as much.
The last brake job I did a few months ago was more like CAD$800, not a few dozen dollars.
My wife has a C-Max hybrid that she drives. She is very very good with the regen braking. So good that the brakes had to be replaced due to the rotors rusting and becoming pitted, not the pads wearing out.
