It is a slider, just a confusing one that’s hard to see with no clear visual or tactile feedback.
With all the tech out now, we should be able to hit the voice button and say “blow 68 degree air on my face and feet real hard” and the car just does it.
This is nuts - and not in a good way. I hope there’s some sort of user flow that involves the steering wheel controls, because no way would I be dicking around with that while driving.
I agree - this is insane.... The passenger can’t even reliably set this thing and they are 100% concentrated on that one task... trying to drive and do this?!?!?!
In my opinion, touchscreens are not optimal for applications in moving vehicles. That tactile feedback plus something to hold onto while bouncing around is really nice to have.
If he wants to donate all $3,000 to it that’s great, and it might make him feel like a good person, but he shouldn’t be guilted into doing that.

Cruise ships are built with economy in mind. Lighter construction to go farther on smaller engines using less fuel. No margin is allowed for degraded performance, so when one thing goes wrong it affects seemingly unrelated systems as well.
