Backlogged: Return of the Gemma Knight

This weekend I’ll be playing Spelunky 2, appropriately enough, as I’ve already put a good ten hours or so in. It’s absolutely incredible, and I say that as someone who bounced off the original. Kudos Will for pointing out the turkeys, as I didn’t remember them from the original and they’re one of the main reasons that

Still playing Marvel’s Avengers but the combat issues in the endgame are starting to annoy me. I’ve gone through a slow-mo version of all the hardcore players in the first week or two.
Also, a patch is coming out “soon” according to the Devs but people are waiting since yesterday so all they got was a weekly update.

The Adventures of Batmobile : Arkham Knight. It’s much less good than Mad Max, but the moments where you’re on foot are better. Also, lots of laughs with the batman-ness of the batman-y batman. It’s all so dumb. It all wants to sound so badass. My eyes haven’t rolled as much in a videogame since SiN (yes, I’m that old)

I’m just about finished with The Outer Worlds Gorgon DLC and I enjoyed it. The writing really helps make up for the weak combat. I also started playing Hades on the Switch and I’m having a blast with it. It’s such a fun and unique way to do a roguelike.

Motherfuckin’ Hades dropped yesterday in a surprise move, and that got bought and downloaded IMMEDIATELY. Supergiant has yet to make a game that I didn’t at least enjoy in the moment, and I’m looking forward to diving into the synergies and character moments that pop up. My gf in particular LOVES roguelikes and has

The column is spot-on, it’s astonishing just how good Spelunky 2 is despite being such a straightforward “This is exactly like the first game, from basic mechanics down to level themes and enemy types, but with some new wrinkles” take on a sequel. As pointed out, every “rule” you knew from the original applies here,

Now playing

Okay before anything else I have to recommend to everyone a game I’ve been playing called Knights and Bikes. It was released by Double Fine last year and is wonderful. The premise is, it’s about a couple of little girls on an island in the UK (probably near Cornwall) looking for treasure. It’s sorta designed for co-op

I just finished Spiritfarer which was touching and beautiful but a mixed bag.

Hopefully work doesn’t get TOO in the way of gaming this weekend. Started Dead by Daylight recently for laughs, and while waiting to get in a game as the killer is a hassle, it’s still a fun time waster.
Slowly making my way through Horizon and will probably pick up Tony Hawk for that sweet sweet nostalgia

This expansion sounds very cool, and a solid deepening of the weird ephemeral plot that made Control so appealing. I’m grateful to finally have a Remedy game I enjoy!

I really couldn’t wait anymore so I splurged on the Deluxe edition for Avengers.
Only to have life intervene and give me a busy personal and professional week. So I only got to play on Tuesday for a couple of hours. But really loving the campaign so far. Looking forward to diving in on Sunday for a whole day of lazy

Video games

Passed a big plot point in Dragon Quest XI. And it means saying goodbye to one particularly strong character (probably my favorite), in a way that was done quite well. The game’s ability to pull off good non-maudlin emotional moments isn’t really surprising anymore but it is remarkable.

I picked up Horizon: Zero Dawn after not playing it for...2 years? to knock out the hunting grounds challenges, the one or two side questlines I was missing and finally tackle the final mission. I was immediately reminded why I put it down when I did - the backstory was so good and so well told that it immediately

Hoo boy it has been a few weeks er months, hasn’t it?

I feel like both Hulk and Superman are hard to do in games.  They are both so powerful, what can you throw against them to make it fun?  Sure you could do things like lessen their abilities (maybe someone has turned the Sun red so Supes isn’t at full power), but once that is resolved, they are back to full power and

Downloaded Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun on a whim after seeing it mentioned in the reviews of Desperados III as a good game. So far, the quick load en save functions are great and necessary. The different characters feel distinct enough and the missions definitely give you some options and freedom how to

So, after dabbling a little I’ve plunged pretty heavy into Final Fantasy XIV. It’s got the hooks in, for now. The environments are very lovely, combat’s pretty enjoyable, it’s easy to spend a lot more time than you intended just doing various quests. My Marauder is now a full-on Warrior, though I’m also starting to
