playing Link’s Awakening in beautifully rendered cartoon graphics and with great orchestral music was the highlight of my year in games

I’ve played no 2019 games this year but I have been playing God of War, and I honestly think it’s one of my favorite games ever - the story and the characters are some of the best I’ve ever seen in a videogame.

I’m always several years behind on video games, but I got a Switch this year, so I was at least able to play Blaster Master Zero 2, Baba Is You, Cadence of Hyrule, Untitled Goose Game, the Link’s Awakening remake, and Luigi’s Mansion 3. Of those, I’m definitely on-board with sodas-and-fries:

It takes me about six months to get through a game so the only games I’ve completed this year are Spider-Man and 9/10th of God of War.
I did get Jedi: Fallen Order for Christmas this year so maybe when I’m done with God of War I’ll be able to get started on a newish game for a change. On the other hand, I also got

I wish I could hug your comment.

Yep yep, I definitely concur. Gaming sites can’t all point to the same 3-4 titles and go, “there’s this year in a nutshell,” so the focus seems to be instead, “transition year before the new generation sparks off in 2020.” Their loss. Me, I’m super happy to call this the year we got TWO distinct taxi cab confessional

So this is how 2019 ends. With an overwhelming backlog.

First 4 months of the year were RDR2. Had been playing since it launched in Oct 2018. So that’s my biggest thing. Then I knocked out Spider-Man for the PS4 followed by AC: Oddessey. Then lots of little stuff. Now, to close out the year, since I’m not interested in the Witcher TV show, I reloaded and modded the hell

My top game list for the year might change thanks to some Christmas games (got Pokemon, Control, and Jedi Fallen Order) but I know my top 3 are AI:The Somnium Files, Fire Emblem Three Houses, and Shenmue II in whatever order.

Hello all! Been busy during the holidays, but I did do an end-of-the-year roundup of sorts! While we were live commentating on this year’s Game Awards, the gameological discord decided we should do one of our own. Here’s my post if you’re interested!

I don’t think I had a “favorite” game this year. I played through at least 10 new games this year and I can barely remember any of them. Overall I think Astral Chain stuck with me the most because it was in my favorite genre of hack and slash in addition to being from Platinum. It also had a pretty fun sense of humor

Backlogged: Super Half-Arsed Edition

I haven’t played a ton of 2019's games but I absolutely loved Control. The atmosphere and setting just drew me in from the first moment. The combat was a lot of fun; difficult in parts without being overwhelming. I wanted to read each piece of lore. That first Threshold Kids video I found was Missing Momma and it got

Since I’m slowly going through my backlog and also grabbing as many free games as possible (Epic Games Store has really helped there), I’ve only played one (1) game released in 2019 - Untitled Goose Game. That makes it my favorite game of 2019 both by default and because it’s an absolute freaking blast too play.

Skyrim yet again for me. The fact that my oldest son has fallen in love with the game only wants to make me play it more. I’ve also convinced my spouse to start playing with mods. She’s installed Khajit follower Inigo and adoptable Khajit orphan Maisha and wants me to set it up so she can install stuff from Nexus Mods

Salutations~!

Best Game of 2019: Control

Ground Control plus Dark Conspiracy went on sale on GOG the other day for two bucks, so revisiting that is very high on this weekend’s activity list.

This isn’t playing, I guess, but very much game-related (and tabletop game) at that. This weekend I’ll be pulling hair out as I try to wrap up writing/layout for a D&D 5e convention adventure. My co-author kind of vanished, and the first round of playtesting—while super positive—seemed to indicate that the final
