I’m coming up on the end of my first run on Fire Emblem. Normal mode as has been mentioned is a bit of a breeze, but it will definitely ramp up at the end. The best advice I can give anyone starting out is to look at the master classes and build backward from there. Everything through advanced I was able to find a

My friend asked me to get Remnant: From the Ashes to play with them so I’ve been playing a bit of that. It seems interesting, an odd mix of aesthetics but in a cool way.

I played through the (extremely generous) Dragon Quest XI S demo and really enjoyed it. RPGs that aren’t Shin Megami Tensei haven’t really done it for me lately, but it looks like XI might break that trend.

I’ll attempt to be brief this week (and we all know I’ll fail…).

My PC is up on bricks at the moment, awaiting a new power supply. I think a combination of disastrous old age, the summer heatwave and, er, tobacco smoke finished it off. So, not much gaming for me until it arrives (hopefully in a few hours).

Interesting - I really like the idea of being given random rolls but using those rolls however you see fit. That appeals to the min-maxer in all of us. There are plenty of times where low rolls in D&D are just boring, because the failure is either frustrating or isn’t made interesting by the DM. It’s nice to see a

Now playing

Watch quill18 play Dicey Dungeon had placed it on my wish list. And at $8, it’s almost an impulse buy, but I might not have time this week

oh man I really hope Dicey Dungeons comes to the Switch soon so I can just lose 20 to 500 hours on it.

I’ve been playing Control, which is very cool.

This week I’ve been slowly plugging away at Assassins Creed : Origins, and have been absolutely loving it. The gameplay and story are whatever, but goddamn do I love their recreation of a tiny snippet of “Ancient Egypt.” The cities are a bit meh, though I did like canal-ridden Memphis, but the countryside is just

Doom (2016) is frenetic fun, but I’m finding it more challenging (on Hurt Me Plenty) than I would have 10 years ago, before my twitch muscles totally atrophied. I really appreciated the way the game eases you in a little bit in the facility and then ramps up the difficulty as soon as you hit Hell. I especially respect

Same old games as for the past few weeks, which is why I haven’t been posting here much:

It seems like last year (at Essen, anyway) was the year dice placement fully took its place as a “here-to-stay” mechanic. Obviously it’s been used in popular games since Castles of Burgundy, but last year it kind of exploded. (And we picked up and have enjoyed the very good Rise to Nobility.)

With Gears of War 5 coming up and looking really promising, I finally decided to give Gears 4 a change have been slowly pushing through it. So far it has been nice, even if nothing truly special, but Jesus Christ is JD Fenix one of the dullest main characters I’ve played in ages. He is such a weird collection of

I’ve been watching plenty of Dicey Dungeons on Twitch. If it’s not on my Steam wishlist, it’s out of laziness and not lack of intent to watch it for a price drop or reward myself for backlog progress. Given the dice and deck building aspects of the game, it’s a neat intersection of the two halves of my gaming sphere.

Can’t stop playing Picross on the Switch; stunning that your finished puzzles are STILL not animated, when that was a feature on the DS version better than a decade back- and the presentation is sterile as all get out- but the puzzles are as addicting as ever- and now solving them unlocks pieces to large murals adding

I’m catching up on Kentucky Route Zero. It’s a cool game.

My ongoing effort to tackle my backlog is chugging along. After some story-heavy, gameplay-lite games, I jumped into Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor.
The first time I tried this game, I played through the prologue/tutorial. All was well, learning to slice and dice and all that. Then the prologue ends, I’m on some tower

So Yakuza 3, 4 and 5 are coming out in for the PS4 early next year. As someone who only got into the series with 0 and didn’t have a PS3, I’m very excited for this.
