It really depends on the feeling the game is going for. If you’re a pioneer exploring a vast, untamed wilderness, then the world should feel as if it hasn’t been shaped by humans; there shouldn’t be trails cut through the grass or easy-to-navigate ledges carved into cliffsides. However, if you’re exploring a region

Matt,

I’ve been debating all weekend whether to post something or not, and I’ve even discarded this message a couple of times, but I think it needs to be asked: Do we really need so much vulgar slang in our headlines and articles? Reviews for both Wolfenstein II and Battlefront II both managed to squeeze an F-bomb in

I think what makes a world interesting to explore (and that I’m working at doing as a GM) is actually having places that you can’t explore...yet. Nothing makes a world feel smaller than having the player be able to tick off all the boxes of what they can do as soon as they get there. But, drop tantalizing hints that

Life ever gets in the way of escapism.

Our next round of Pandemic: Legacy is November, so we’re on the home stretch! I won’t spoil anything, but we’ve opened all the boxes except the “Only Open This If You Lose Four Times In A Row” one. At this point, I don’t see that happening, but we’ll probably leave it sealed until we’ve finished December. So fun!

Yeah eventually they’re gonna not beat the previous year’s total; that’s just inevitable. But I don’t think that will be this year. I would speculate that political events have put people in a very charitable mood and they were so close to breaking 700K last year that I think they can do it.

Hmmm..this is hard, because for everything else in life my wife is my sounding board of ideas. But she’s in the game, as well as all the other close friends I would consult otherwise. That would certainly plug in the hole of thinking about the unknown.

This week, in My Week In Board Games! (uh, working title): Last Saturday I played my second session of Starfinder, a sci-fi setting using adjusted Pathfinder rules. These are actually my first sessions as a player, as I joined this hobby as a DM trying to rope my friends into something. So I’m having trouble both

This weekend is going to be filled with Housework Simulator, wherein I spackle, sand, prime and paint my bedrooms. All the times I’m not doing that will most likely be spent with a combination of games, primarily Overwatch: it’s a free weekend after all, and I’m trying to convince my friend to buy it. Plus there’s a

I’ve been spending an hour or more most nights this week (after spending a big chunk of the weekend) going through Wolfenstein II. The story is, as expected, an absolute blast, as good if not better than The New Order—some of the novelty is gone, but I really love the characters, and a big part of pushing

Oops, forgot to mention down there that I’m also back to playing through Earthbound on the SNES Classic. This game has the best writing, still, doesn’t it? I don’t think I’ve ever played a game that had me laughing as loudly and frequently as this does. I just got to Twoson, and had been anticipating a longer jaunt

Super Mario Odyssey.

I played the first hour or so of Horizon: Zero Dawn. It’s absolutely gorgeous, Switch games look good, but when it’s firing on all cylinders the PS4 can put out some staggeringly beautiful visuals. And I don’t have a PS4 Pro or a TV with HDR. Anyway, the game seems pretty nice so far, although the exposition was

All of the discussion surrounding the latest Pokemon editions has kinda made me glad I waited until Pokemon Moon to get started in it. I’m on the third island and, while the sheen has worn off to an extent, I still think it’s easy to pick up and play. It’s been in and out of my 3DS lately because of so many other

Not going to be playing a lot of games this weekend, although with Iconic Masters being released I’m probably going to get in a couple of drafts. I will, however, be watching quite a lot of people playing one specific game: Desert Bus.

This is a short weekend for me, as I have Saturday classes, so I’ll be doing very little gaming at all. This week I have been very slowly making my way through Rise of the Tomb Raider, and am around 30% completion at the moment. It is still fun, and still VERY stupid. I mean, people in the real world go to rather

What Have You Finished This Week?

Happy weekend, everyone! First of all, it’s my pleasure to announce that nominations are now open for the 55th edition of the Game Revue Club in the Gameological group on Steam! Here’s the Web link:

I’ve largely been focusing on the Switch this week. I’m still collecting moons in SUPER MARIO ODYSSEY - currently around 400, and not sure when I’ll stop (I sincerely doubt I’ll collect every moon in every kingdom, though, because I’m terrible at those Koopa races). I finished my replay of SHOVEL KNIGHT: SHOVEL OF

Made enough progress in Hyrule Warriors to see that the irritating Gohma fight seems to have been an anomaly- the next big monster they drag out is a much more interesting challenge.
