I think that you're giving too much credit to the standard cars and the AI. The AI is weak, they drive nothing like actual race car drivers, who are usually at least a little worried about getting into a crash with a $500,000 car... And the standard cars look horrible.

I usually just use whatever my host provides, which is 1&1. Prices are about universally identical to industry leaders. It's not great, but it works and if you have hosting with 1&1 the process is pretty seamless.
