alot of people online seem confused by this. the High Republic era is a period of 1000 years between the Old Republic and the prequel movies. during that time the Sith are in hiding and are never seen. the specific time period of these stories is 200 years before Phantom Menace.

Worth noting that if you break all nine of the Umbral Beast’s shield tiles you can interrupt the cast of Umbral Surge and attack with impunity for a little while. I found this to be the most effective method of dealing with it.
