I can see that. I had a similar discussion with someone about Encanto; she was disappointed there was no explanation of where the house or the powers came from, but that didn’t bother me because that’s an element of the genre. There sure as heck no explanation in 100 Years of Solitude, which the movie borrowed heavily…

I wasn’t that interested in the mystery box aspect, just how the characters were affected by it, and I don’t think we need an explanation of how the machine works. Some shows do need that, but this felt more like magical realism to me, where a detailed explanation of what’s going on is not at all the point.

It’ll be the first movie presented entirely as a slideshow.
