that was always my fave thing about the british show. sometimes he’d come back a year later and the place would just...be closed! they baked it into the narrative that even if some once-in-a-lifetime lifeline comes in, it still might not be enough.

as much as i’ll always go to bat for the early, uk seasons being some of the best tv the genre has ever produced, i can still watch hours of this stuff forever.
