The widespread belief that the Hot Coffee woman won an outrageous amount for a frivolous case in which she (as the ignorant believe) was 100% at fault actually has caused a lot of problems. Spreading falsities can actually be harmful. But I’m sure the victim in that case appreciates your being so dismissive of her

Plenty of male musicians have conjured up outrageous stage personas: KISS, Prince, Elton John, to name three off the top of my head. None of them got the shit for “not really being artists” that Gaga does.

Don’t repeat corporate propaganda without Googling first. Liebeck originally asked for $20k to cover medical expenses (her 3rd degree burns required skin grafts) and loss of income. When McDonalds refused to settle they went to trial. The jury was so horrified by the willful and gross negligence that they awarded her

If you’re going to reference a specific case, you might want to actually read up on and understand that case first.

Would you mind disclosing some of your reasoning? Do you think she has become famous solely because of her image? What definition of image are you using? Like is her music a part of the image or is it just the way she presents herself? Is image building the problem? Why cannot the mind behind the image building be

She was awarded for her medical bills, that coffee was well into dangerous temperatures and caused third degree burns on 6% (eta actually it may have been 16%) of her body. It almost killed her. She was in the hospital for 8 days and needed skin grafts. She originally asked for her medical bills but they refused.

You don’t like Lady Gaga, you don’t like Hillary judging by your nick, is there any woman you do like, or do you want them to all to shut up so that you can finally have peace of mind?

Who is supposed to talk about it then? If you DON’T succeed, no one listens to you or you’re just “bitter” or else you don’t know what you’re talking about. I love all these people saying she has no right to talk about it because she managed to get some success. That’s awfully convenient because it means no one gets

Exactly right. Prime example Ke$ha.

I fell in love with her not because she’s hawt and doesn’t mind being half-naked, but because she is FUCKING BRILLIANT. Her lyrics, her voice, her costumes, her dances, her daring. Then I started wondering what the hell she was doing, what with being vomitted on and working with Terry Richardson and R. Kelly and all

The problem is you can do well financially and still be mistreated due to the power imbalance between the execs and the people they have trapped in exploitative contracts.

Yes, because she just “made” it without any difficulty or effort on her part and she’s certainly not qualified to speak about the sexism in the music industry after working her way through it... Let’s ignore the fact that she has stated that she was raped by a producer as a budding artist. That’s certainly not sexism

“As for the concerns regarding mental toughness and possible romantic entanglements: fuck off, entitled gross dudes.”

As I was reading this article I turned to my coworker, exasperated, and ranted about the exact same thing. How about you guys just choose not to be assholes and cheat on your wives or sexually harass

I can understand somewhat the initial concern about physical strength but this is negated by the mandatory requirements. Aka if she can meet the physical strength required, then she has every right to be there.

“I want to use this ladder to get up but I’ll gladly kick it over for other people when they want to use it.”

The news has value in that it teaches kids about the world, and makes news important to them.

Those two things are not at all equivalent. Seth MacFarlane shows are awful. A 10-year-old should have some idea of what’s going on in the world, but they don’t need terrible cultural messaging from a fictional program.

“These accusations are obviously bullshit because they’re all coming from people I had the opportunity to sexually assault! You don’t hear any accusations coming from Rosa Parks, do you? No you don’t, case closed.”

“ I am not politically correct nor do I particularly care if people disagree with me.”
