I think that slime has been there since January 2017.

Let’s see, they are required to play for their scholarship. They need to follow a schedule that is sports first, academics second. Their scholarship is yearly and can be revoked due to poor play or other athletic reasons, but never for scholarly reasons.

I was highly amused yesterday to see that not only were there a lack of sports articles on Deadspin, The Root had an article up about players in the NCAA getting to profit off their own likenesses, Kotaku had an article up about an NBA game being cancelled, and Gizmodo had one that was titled “Terrorists Win”.
Seems that California got them to jump.
