“The permanent layoffs will not affect Cirque du Soleil employees in Florida and Las Vegas”

the Canadian performers will be just fine if they move back home, they won’t need the company health benefits and they’ll qualify for CERB.  so you’re shrugging at the cast who are American and international citizens who won’t be so lucky.  nice of you.

No, the lockdowns helped dramatically. That’s like denying gravity exists. Income SHOULDN’T have been a problem but because of a failure of leadership from the highest levels, it was one.

They employ artists worldwide, a LOT of Americans. Many of us in live entertainment have long considered them to be a dream place to work. Our industry is dead, the first to shut down under COVID-19 and we will likely be the last to return, and the people who employed us are treating us like dirt. “Fans” demand that

Oh but NEXT YEAR, Everything goes back to normal all everyone pays $100 for overprice circus tickets to make this asshole even more rich.

That and Skip Gates is a criminal (because he locked himself out of his own house).

SO MUCH OBAMA.

Americans are insanely short sighted by default. And I’m not going to qualify this statement by saying “some Americans.” The short-sightedness of Americans is deeply cultural and effects most aspects of life, from economics to politics to popular culture.

Yeah when all the people working essential jobs die off all the non essential people will starve to death.

People seem extremely confused, which baffles me. We can either drastically hurt the economy for a short period of time measured in weeks and minimize death OR we can drastically hurt the economy for an extremely long period of time measured in months if not years and drastically explode the amount of death. Choice is

There was all the Obama — there’s a riot, and he has a beer at the White House with some criminal, to listen to him. Wasn’t having a beer with the police officers. So we said, “We’re on your side. We’ve got your back, you got our thanks”

I don’t know how old Hazel is but your memory of that time period is spot-on and I think that’s part of why this analysis lands wrong for some of us — the early 2000s were a dark fucking time to be a woman, and Jimmy Kimmel and Adam Corolla fed that culture and were fed by it in kind. Adam Corolla got sucked in

I don’t think she said she lives in Avondale, but she went to the Taco Bell there after a night of drinking. Assuming she went to the Revolution Brewing Brewpub on Kedzie, that place has no food. So she may have been visiting rather than living there.

I have changed a TON since I was in college.  I am embarrassed how conservative I was.  Now I am super progressive and have a lot of empathy for other people.  People can change.  Even if it takes something that personally affects them.

You’re not wrong. And I’d also add in: this was how society was in the 1990's and early 2000's. Yes, there was a spectrum, and yes, The Man Show branded itself as being further along that Bell Curve than, say, Late Night with Jay Leno.

You make some good points, but it also seems like you didn’t read the whole thing:

They say All lives matter, while making fun of someone who’s life was taken violently...but they swear they’re not racist when asked😒

Good to see that the union didn’t support this guy at all. NYPD take notes this is how you deal with someone that embarrasses your union. Now make sure he never works in law enforcement ever again

I really liked this movie when I was a kid. I’m really surprised everyone thinks it was archaic and creepy. Maybe it’s because I grew up without a dad so I’m not comparing Steve Martin's character to anything in my real life? I don’t know. I thought it was a cute movie. Of course parents have anxiety about their kids

This is probably the last time I read or comment on this website slamming some 20 year old movie that people really like to look back on and love. I honestly don’t understand this series at all. There are so, so, so many other actual problematic movies that deserve a closer look...not this one, and not a lot of the
