In an ironic twist, it looks like Man of Steel is going to have the *hero* get captured as part of his plan.  (Clearly he's not going to be led away in cuffs against his will, and they don't look like they're made of Kryptonite.)

Meyer never tried to rehash "Khan," because he was working back in the olden days of the 1980s when there was still such a concept as "too soon."

I thought the opening sequence of the movie (with Kirk's ill-fated dad) was actually the best action set piece in the whole picture.  It was all downhill from there … red matter, stupid time travel, improbable ice planet within sight of Vulcan, Scotty's midget sidekick, puffy-hands-Kirk, Academy hijinks … bleh.  But

And I thought he was referencing "The Gamesters of Triskelion."  Where Kirk fights with that funky metal pole with a curved blade on one end and a heavy weight on the other end. And the ep had a hot but weird looking alien chick in it to boot, instead of a lizard.
