This is true if the wages are unfair or biased, which they often are. Whenever I have discussed pay in my office it has never caused problems. If there wasn't something wrong with how pay is being distributed why would it cause problems?

I believe it is a testament to what the human body can accomplish that doesn't come with a ultra competitive culture or any inherent aggression really. It is kind of the sport for people who hate sports.
