Yes, but low fat milk just makes people feel better. The amount of fat you’d get from a glass of milk is pretty insignificant. Mind you, it doesn’t hurt, either.

I’d much rather less of the real thing than more of a low fat thing.

It’s been a long time since I studied it, but IIRC the two forms (to oversimplify an enormous amount seeing how many dialects exist) were the same at one point, and then diverged with some forms of American English changing less, and some in England changing greatly (RP perhaps the most of all).
