As someone who is very interested in linguistics, I haaaaaaated the twist in Arrival. The strong version of the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis that the movie depends on was discredited decades ago. It’s junk science fiction, as bad as that “we only use 10% of the human brain” movie from a couple years ago.

Why are people saying I’m supposed to like this movie? My take is that this is a movie that dumb people watch so they can consider themselves smart.

That photo manipuation looks like it was done with tech available the same year the book was written.

It’s not.

I’m more upset with how she *sounds* out of place. Her voice is too... ‘weak’, I guess is the word I’d use. The major’s always had the rocksolid voice of a badass in the various adaptions. Emotional content was always subtly hinted at; but here her voice is so laced with it that it feels really out of place for me.

Visually look great,but Scar Jo looks out of place.

He thinks Gizmoduck was called Roboduck. I think it’s fair to say that he has no clue what he’s talking about, everything he says is wrong, and he’s destined for the fires of hell.
