The depressing thing is that you can easily make a legitimate argument that America has an extensive and textured enough history with these sorts of massacres that breaking them up into multiple categories provides meaningful context.

These massacres don’t fit into the mass shooting category as you defined at the beginning of the article. These massacres had very definite targets. The “mass shootings” we’re talking about don’t have clearly defined targets and purposes.

Those only count as the worst if you ignore the Bear River, Oak Run, and Wounded Knee massacres though...
