At least in Chrono Cross, many of the characters have a ‘canned’ response when stuff happens. but the response is written in the way the character normally speaks. Having them just not be there at all is weird.

Just reading the tweet linked at the start of the article, the dude wrote his comment in an appreciative way (literally: “thanks for the insightful thread”) and made a remark that presentation format, not the genre, encourages a linear story.

The places with food that’s “for show” (i.e. they want you to buy alcohol to wash it down, the food itself is stuff that can be cooked with minimal effort and prep) *usually* don’t open for lunch.
