Games such as Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Horizon Zero Dawn are broadening the roles of women in games. But, perhaps more subtly, the roles for men are evolving as well. There is growing room for men to have complex emotions, to fight for things other than glory, vengeance and self-interest.

A half measure might fly too. The ability to bust your credit card out and buy that ‘one specific skin’ at a price, or spend in game currency for loot boxes for items normally exclusive to the cash shop.

Diablo 2 (with expansions) had White, Grey, Blue, Yellow, Green and Gold (green being set, and gold being uniques). Orange items did exist (they were craftables through the horadric cube) but they were cumbersome to make and completely random.

The issue is Anonymity to a degree (though ‘Punchability’ is a better motivator maybe), but killing anonymity has reverse risks (as battle.net found out, people came forward with good reasons for wanting to stay anonymous (i.e. not revealing own gender, not revealing ethnicity, witness protection program, etc).

If it’s made by EA (as they hold the licencing for SW video games) you can bet your ass they’ll never make it not shit, and if they do get it right, they’ll bog it down with microtransactions.

I liked FFXV, but I always felt like I was missing something obvious in combat. stuff seemed to take -forever- to kill until magic was involved, then it was usually an OHKO, which also decimates my own party.

To be fair, comparing evil today to evil in the 90's is not really fair. He killed (or should I say, was accused of killing) two adults, and his trial was televised for like years it felt like.

I disagree. It was servicable until late game where it became a bit of a nightmare. Special attacks used by random enemies and bosses basically canceled any attacks/spells you had in progress with a cutscene (but still treated them as having been spent).

It had a very harsh launch for PC which tanked the overall impression of the game. I think it’s since been cleaned up but I’d wager you’d still have a better time playing it on console.
